Tapahtumasta:
In this public event, students from the University of the Arts Helsinki and University of Helsinki share insights about their participation in the course Think Like a Forest.
The course, a 10-day immersive camp on Vallisaari, integrates art, science and activism. During the camp, students will explore and share approaches from art, science and activism with which to address the climate crisis. The course asks how science can integrate the subjectivity and sensitivity of art into its practices and how art can become a useful tool of social transformation rather than a symbolic one.
Free entry, no registration is required.
COURSE TEACHERS AND FACILITATORS:
• Isabelle Frémeaux and John Jordan, co-founders of the Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination
• University of Helsinki, Institute of Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR).
Lectures by Laura Riuttanen, Taina Ruuskanen, Kourosh Kabiri Koupaei, Hanna Vehkamäki, Timo Vesala
• University of Arts of Helsinki, Theatre Academy. Lectures by Paavo Järvensivu.
• In collaboration with Metsähallitus.
ABOUT THE LABORATORY OF INSURRECTIONARY IMAGINATION:
John Jordan has been described as a “magician of rebellion” by the press. He is a co-founder of “Reclaim the Streets” (1995-2000) and the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army and co-author of We Are Everywhere: The irresistible rise of global anticapitalism (2003, Verso).
Isabelle Fremeaux was a senior lecturer in Media and Cultural Studies at Birkbeck College-University, London, until she resigned in December 2011 to escape wage labour and academia. Her action research explores popular education, storytelling and creative forms of resistance.
Together John and Isabelle co-founded and coordinate the art activism and permaculture collective The Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination which brings artists and activists together to design tools and acts of disobedience. Co-authors of the film and book Les Sentiers de l’utopie (2005, Nautilus), they now live and work on the ZAD, the autonomous area in resistance on the site of the planned Notre-Dame-des-Lande's airport in France.
