Natya Vedika is an online event series introducing different Indian dance styles though live and recorded videos. Every week the focus is on a new dancer and dance style, which will be explored through dance classes, artist introductions and performance videos. The first dance class will introduce the classical Mohiniyattam style with dancer Gayathri Menon from Fusia Performing Arts. The class will take place on Facebook, Thursday 13 Aug at 17:00-17:45. The dance class is beginner-friendly, with instruction in English.
When the class starts you will find a recorded video on the event Facebook page, with interactive comment section. Ask for help with the movements or get more information about Gayathri and Indian dances in Finland!

Dance style:
Mohiniyattam is a classical dance which originated and developed in Kerala, southern India. Mohiniyattam is characterized by graceful, swaying body movements and belongs to the lasya style which is feminine, tender and graceful. Compared to most other dance forms, Mohiniyattam gives more importance to gestural and facial acting.
Dance artist:
Gayathri is a versatile dancer and choreographer with extensive experience in Indian dance styles. She is a passionate teacher and performing artist and has given performances on stages both in Finland and India. Gayathri is also the co-founder and instructor at Fusia Performing Arts, where Indian classical dance styles are taught and performed.
