About the artist and the work:
"In 2012 I made my first performance called "The Girl from the Urals". Quite often, the themes of my works are complex, sometimes insoluble questions related to the choice of path.
Having moved to Finland three years ago, a year later, in 2021, I made a performance "First Auditors" at the YO festival. I used Russian folklore, because at that moment the generation of my grandmothers with whom we sang songs together was gone and i wanted to pay tribute to that tradition.
It was unclear whether this subject would be well received and understood here in Finland (within a completely different context), and I was lucky to meet with amazing understanding and response.
As I was born in the USSR, on the territory of Russia, for more than a year I have not only not wanted to do performances, but in general to express myself, just being myself, a person with a Russian identity, has become a problem. At some point I even thought to abandon the profession of an artist in order to get rid of the need for representation to avoid self representation. From many discussions with other Russians on the question of "how can I repent while every day more and more acts of inhumanity are committed?" Dostoevsky's famous saying came up which is "truly everyone is to blame for everyone for everyone". It no longer sounds like an abstract truth, because the feeling of guilt arises simply from the fact of being alive while someone is being killed right now and forced to kill, deprived of land and / or trying to deprive human dignity. And my performance will not solve these problems, the same difficulty I see in goal to get rid of the uselessness or beauty inherent of art.
I didn't see any other way out than despite the fact that I can't do a performance, to make a performance about the fact that I can't do a performance. And just try to express this contradiction."
