After work: an evening for the women of Afghanistan
Hinta: 0
Ajankohdat:
Tapahtumasta:
Four years after the Taliban took over Kabul, the government of Afghanistan has stripped women of nearly all autonomy.
“The Taliban is closer than ever to achieving its vision of a society that completely erases women from public life”, the UN Women stated earlier in August this year.
At the same time, Afghanistan faces a dire humanitarian crisis driven by conflict, economic collapse, natural disasters, and severe restrictions on women's and girls' rights, leading to widespread food insecurity, lack of essential services, and mass displacement. The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is one of the most complex, persistent and severe in the world.
Women are living shorter, less healthy lives, restricted to their homes.
Join us for an update on the situation in Afghanistan and a discussion over what we in Finland can do together to support the women in Afghanistan.
When: Tuesday 9th September 2025 at 5pm
Where: Bar Typo, Lintulahdenkatu 3
The event will be held in English, translation to Dari is available.
Speakers:
▪️ Shekeba Ahmadi, Women’s rights advocate: Situation of women in Afghanistan and what Finland could do as a foreign actor
▪️Linda Konate, Executive Director of Fingo, the Finnish development NGOs: Humanitarian situation in Afghanistan
▪️Elina Korhonen, Director of international affairs, Väestöliitto (Family Federation of Finland): How to provide sexual and reproductive health services in today’s Afghanistan
