★ PSYCHEDELICS AND MENTAL HEALTH: A NEW PATH FOR TREATING DEPRESSION?
What if some of the most stigmatized substances in the history of pharmacology were now helping to transform psychiatry?
This talk invites us to explore what science currently says about psychedelics: how they act on the brain, what the first clinical trials are revealing, and what still remains to be proven.
Nearly half of patients suffering from depression do not respond to existing treatments. It is this reality that led the laboratory of Eero Castrén in Helsinki to study psychedelics and their effects on brain plasticity.
Drawing from ongoing research at the University of Helsinki, this discussion will present current scientific findings on these substances and their potential in the treatment of depression — including both their promises and their limitations — and open the conversation to the audience.
★ ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Anaïs Virenque is a neuroscience researcher at the University of Helsinki, working in the laboratory of Professor Eero Castrén. She completed her master’s degree in France at the University of Montpellier before earning her PhD in Helsinki in 2023. Her current research focuses on brain plasticity and the connectivity of neural networks, particularly on how psychedelics might help reopen forms of plasticity that the adult brain has gradually lost over time.
★ PRACTICAL INFORMATION
The event will be held in French.
While it is primarily intended for French teachers, anyone interested in the subject is warmly welcome to attend.
