Nug - Vandal In Motion
Ajankohdat:
Tapahtumasta:
“Extremely provoking. Graffiti is by nature illegal. This is not art”
said the Swedish Minister of Culture, Lena Adehlson Liljeroth in 2009. The notorious graffiti artist NUG created such a scandal with his graduation work, Territorial Pissing, that he had to go in exile to Helsinki for a while. Here the Finnish graffiti pioneer EGS hosted him and helped him to hide his art work. While the Swedish Minister of Culture was furious, Paavo Arhinmäki notes in the documentary that it isn't the Minister of Culture's job to define what art is, while showing a poster of NUG's artwork on his wall. This film follows NUG and his “spagging” from Finland to Berlin and to the heart of the Swedish upper class, Stureplan.
What is art and who decides it?
After the film (around 9 pm) we will have a discussion on street art and art activism in a Finnish context with Jari Tamminen, the author of Häiriköt - Kulttuurihäirinnän aakkoset, and Finnish street artist Hende Nieminen (http://www.teamhaloo.fi/#/hende, https://www.flickr.com/photos/99551399@N05/) as well as Liinu Grönlund, the director of the short film Unfinished from ELO that we will screen before NUG.
