YIMBYcon is an international event that brings together urban activists in Helsinki, Finland on August 11-14, 2016. Shortage of urban housing is one of the biggest problems cities and societies face today. The YIMBY (Yes In My BackYard) movement proposes that building more, especially in downtown areas, is a crucial part of the solution. YIMBYcon is a place for networking, sharing stories of success and failure, and learning from the work of YIMBY activists in other cities. The convention will be organized in unconference style so that program is created by YIMBY activists for YIMBY activists.

The preliminary program for the con includes a fuckups night on Thursday evening where we will have a chance to share our biggest failures, workshops and presentations on the mornings and afternoons on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and city tours with a chance to see old areas and new areas being built in Helsinki and its neighbour cities.

YIMBYcon will be organized free of charge. We may also have a limited number of travel grants available for eligible participants who want to attend YIMBYcon. The grants are designed to cover travel costs for participants coming from abroad. You can apply for a travel grant when registering. The deadline for applying travel grants is Sunday July 24. The selection of awardees is handled directly by the organizers based on the availability of grants and number of applicants. The organizers will contact all eligible participants on Monday July 25.

We may also be able to organize accommodation at local YIMBY activists homes.
