Mie Olise Kjaergaard, Emma Helle, Markku Keränen
Mie Olise Kjærgaard’s work unfolds in large-scale paintings and sculptural environments where women take center. They sail, skate, ride, build, and play music, often with children in tow, moving with urgency and joy. Kjærgaard’s work celebrates the female body as an active, intuitive force, charged with freedom, danger, rebellion, and play. Humor cuts through the seriousness — not to soften, but to sharpen. These are not narratives of perfection, but of persistence, invention, and the courage to act, even when the times are unstable.
Emma Helle (s. 1979) on kuvanveistäjä, joka tarkastelee taiteessaan representaation kysymystä: kenen tarinat tuodaan esiin? Teokset tulkitsevat uudelleen tuttuja kertomuksia ja ammentavat taidehistorian lisäksi pohjoisen ja antiikin mytologiasta. Veistosten pinta vaihtelee karheasta sileään, lasitetusta ja värikylläisestä paljaaseen poltettuun. Taiteilijan rento mutta runsas ilmaisu, jota korostavat pehmeät muodot ja teatraalinen läsnäolo, tuo mieleen taidehistorian kanoniset teokset. Näyttelyssä Helteen rönsyilevä kuvakieli kertoo tarinoita, joissa kivikautinen Willendorfin Venus ja suomalaisesta mytologiasta lainatut hahmot ovat olemassa rinnakkain.
Emma Helle is a Finnish sculptor who casts the spotlight on marginalized creatures and examines the question of representation in her work: whose stories are told. Her sculptures construct alternative narratives, drawing not only on art history but also on folklore and classical mythology. The surfaces of the sculptures range from rough to smooth, from glazed and richly colored to bare and raw surface. Helle’s figures are active agents, and her relaxed yet abundant mode of expression—emphasized by soft forms and a theatrical presence—recalls canonical works of art history. Across different periods, the depiction of the human figure has been shaped by specific conventions—a legacy that Helle engages with by challenging dualistic notions of the body.
Keränen kiinnittyy sarjallisella työskentelyllään maalaustaiteen perinteeseen omaleimaisella tulkinnallaan, jossa sommittelu rakentaa alati uusia maailmoja.
Markku Keränen’s paintings celebrate color and playful treatment of form. His compositions bring abstract forms to life, creating a vivid illusion of movement on the canvas. The motion pulsates rhythmically and perpetually, both across the canvas and depth-wise. The movement never seems to stop, rippling from ball to ball, each one endowed with a distinctive character. Balls of different sizes and shades appear to inhabit a world of their own, creating optical illusions, dynamic contrasts, and an endless array of detailed variations. Keränen’s works are imbued with a sense of all-enfolding infinity. The synergy between form and composition electrifies his work with immense energy and dynamism.
