Songscapes last edition: Vilma Talvitie & Kipeäl

In this final edition of SONGSCAPES we invite Vilma Talvitie & Kipeäl

Vilma Talvitie is a Finnish independent alternative folk artist, singer-songwriter and performer based in Helsinki. Her music weaves together Nordic folk poetry, traditional melodies and original compositions with Finnish lyrics. Her bright and expressive voice is shaped by strong Finno-Ugric vocal traditions.

Vilma is a one-woman band exploring the dialogue between music and movement. On stage, she performs with her original concept PianoBodyPercussion – a hypnotic, multi-sensory experience combining vocals, piano, body percussion, hand percussion and dance.

Kipeäl (Kiwa and Apeal) form an intercultural duo that weaves Nepali folk and Taiwanese Indigenous musical traditions into a contemporary soundscape. Drawing from their diverse musical lineages, they create shared sonic spaces shaped by improvisation, storytelling, and cultural roots.

About Songscapes:
Songscapes takes you on a journey of original song compositions at Vapaan Taiteen Tila. Produced by members of the Global Music department at the Sibelius Academy, this project has been running since November 2024, inviting artists to share their own music and creative visions.
The idea behind Songscapes was born from the need for a space in Helsinki’s music scene where diverse, original songs could be heard and appreciated. Though often influenced by various genres, this music doesn't fit neatly into any one category.
While the term “singer-songwriter” or the Spanish “Cantautor/a” may come close, Songscapes explores a broader sonic landscape. Over the past year, we’ve experienced a wide range of compositions, each unique in its style and story.
