Save Syria – rauhanmarssi ja tukikonsertti Helsingissä

Ainoa keino syyrialaisten kärsimyksen lopettamiseksi on sodan pysäyttäminen. Siksi me marssimme rauhan puolesta Helsingissä YK:n päivänä 24. lokakuuta. Rauhanmarssi lähtee kello 17 Rautatientorilta ja etenee Senaatintorille. Siellä muodostamme torin kokoisen elävän rauhanmerkin, jota varten toivomme osallistujia ottamaan mukaansa kynttilöitä. 

Marssin jälkeen järjestetään tukikonsertti syyrialaisten puolesta. Konsertti alkaa kello 19 Circuksessa (Salomonkatu 1–3). Esiintyjälista julkaistaan myöhemmin. Konsertilla kerätään varoja Syyriassa luotettaville ulkoministeriön kumppanuusohjelmassa mukana oleville avustusjärjestöille.

Syyrian julma sisällissota on kestänyt jo yli viisi vuotta. Sen aikana on kuollut yli 430 000 ihmistä. Yli puolet Syyrian väestöstä on joutunut pakenemaan kodeistaan Syyrian sisällä tai sen rajojen ulkopuolelle. Tule mukaan marssimaan ja vaatimaan loppua sodalle. Me vaadimme seuraavaa: 

Syyrian sota on lopetettava

Siviilien summittainen ja tahallinen tappaminen pitää lopettaa. Sodankäynnilläkin on säännöt. Sotaan on löydettävä rauhanomainen ratkaisu. Osapuolet, myös ulkovallat, on saatava neuvottelemaan ja sotatoimet on lopetettava välittömästi.

Kansainvälinen yhteisö ei voi seurata enää hiljaa Syyrian hätää

Suomen hallituksen on tehtävä kaikkensa, jotta Syyrian sotaan löydettäisiin rauhanomainen ratkaisu. Suomen on toimittava aktiivisesti sekä YK:ssa että EU:ssa, jotta sodan osapuolet saadaan takaisin neuvottelupöytään. Syyrialaisten omia pyrkimyksiä rauhan rakentamiseksi on tuettava. 

Suomen on kannettava vastuunsa Syyrian kriisistä

Suomen tulee ottaa vastaan nykyistä enemmän kaikkein haavoittuvimmassa asemassa olevia kiintiöpakolaisia Syyriasta. Sen sijaan, että pakolaiskiintiötä on pienennetty, sitä pitää kasvattaa. Hädässä oleville pakolaisille on luotava turvallisia reittejä Suomeen ja Eurooppaan. Suomella on mahdollisuus ja kyky auttaa maailman hädänalaisia.

Toivomme, että viestimme leviää ja myös muissa maissa kansalaiset vaativat hallituksiaan tekemään kaikkensa Syyrian sodan lopettamiseksi. Me emme suostu enää todistamaan hiljaa Syyrian sodan kauheuksia. Auta meitä pysäyttämään sota Syyriassa.

Save Syria – peace march and solidarity concert in Helsinki, 24th of October

The only way to stop the suffering of the Syrian people is by putting an end to the war. On United Nations Day, 24th of October, we are marching in Helsinki for peace in Syria. The peace march shall start] at 5pm from Helsinki Railway Square, we will then proceed through the city to Senate Square. At Senate Square, we will form with our bodies a peace sign that will fill up the entire Square, and ask that participants bring candles for this purpose.

After the march there will be a benefit concert in support of the Syrian people. The concert will start at 19 in Circus (Salomonkatu 1-3). The performer list is to be published soon. The proceeds from the concert will go to benefit the Syrian humanitarian efforts of the different Finnish organizations currently working in Syria in partnership with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The concert venue is wheelchair accessible.

The inhumane civil war in Syria has been going on for over five years, claiming over 430,000 lives. Over half of the Syrian population has fled their homes fearing for their lives, some staying inside Syrian borders and others crossing over the border to other countries as refugees. Join the peace march and demand and end to the war!

Here are our demands:

The war in Syria must end

The cruel and senseless killing of civilians must end immediately. International law stipulates that during wars all civilians must be protected; there are rules even for warfare. All parties involved, including the international ones, must be brought to the negotiation table and hostilities must cease immediately. A peaceful solution must be identified to end the conflict.

The international community cannot continue to stand by silently as Syrians continue to suffer

The Finnish government must do all in its power to facilitate a peaceful solution to the conflict in Syria. Finland must play an active role in the United Nations and the European Union to facilitate negotiations among the relevant parties. The efforts of the Syrian people towards a peaceful solution must be supported and encouraged.

Finland must play an active role in alleviating the suffering of the Syrian civilians

Finland must increase the quota for refugees representing the most vulnerable people fleeing Syria. Instead of decreasing the number of refugees accepted, as has been the trend, Finland should take in more refugees. Safe routes must be created for refugees fleeing Syria to enter Europe and Finland. Finland has the opportunity and the responsibility to help those most in need.

We hope that our call spreads across borders and inspires people in other countries to make similar demands on their governments and hold decision makers accountable for ending the war in Syria. We refuse to quietly witness the horrors of this conflict any longer. Join us in doing our part to bring an end to the war in Syria.
