Welcome to the HOT-OSM Geoweek 24h Mapathon, co-organized by HOT-OSM Finland and BCaster!

Geoweek stands for geography awareness week and has been arranged since 1987. We call everyone to participate by mapping the vulnerable areas of the world!

The idea of a mapathon is to gather together with a group of people for mapping a selected target area. This event is open for anyone regardless of previous mapping experience. All you need to bring with you is a laptop with a charger. A mouse is also highly recommended as mapping with a touchpad is tedious work.

The event will be held at the BCaster (https://www.bcaster.com/) office in Karhumäentie 3, Aviabulevardi 1, 01530 Vantaa (Near the Aviapolis train station), starting on 17th of Nov at 14.00 and ending on 18th of Nov at 14.00. It's easy to reach the venue by public transport as well as by car (free parking slots). There are also a few sofas for taking naps if the 24h duration sounds intimidating :)

You are most welcome to participate during the whole event, but feel free to drop by only part-time! Hope to see you all there!

Mapping task(s) will be announced at the start of the event. The mapping will be targeted to support humanitarian aid and research purposes in areas which lack geospatial data. We will also add ad hoc demonstrations and workshops to the program according to interest (eg. how to use JOSM).

Coffee & tea and snacks will be available during the whole event! If you want to bring any of your own, there's a fridge and a microwave available.
